The University of Missouri basketball team received a warm welcome in the Missouri General Assembly today.
Tigers coach Mike Anderson, who signed a contract extension to remain the team's coach, even spoke for a few minutes to the Missouri House. Here's a sampling:
Not everybody was enthused. Rep. Sara Lampe, D-Springfield, sent a Twitter message stating "so if these guys were the state chess champions would we have stopped debate and let the coach speak to the body for 10 min?"
As a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, I am obviously quite pleased that the Mizzou Tigers are in the NCAA Tournament. Deep in my heart, I hope Mike Anderson's squad can win it all and break forever Mizzou's record streak of mediocrity in major sports.
But they won't. I have the Tigers losing to Memphis in the Sweet 16. Thanks to a last minute burst, that scenario is still possible.
Rather, I'm joining with President Barack Obama and probably dozens of others in choosing UNC to win it all. I've picked that team to win the last two NCAA tournaments, only to come away disappointed. But I have faith that Missouri native Tyler Hansbrough will lead the 'Heels to the promised land.
If they don't, I will cry.
In the meantime, here's a video sent by U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer's office recognizing Mizzou's milestone season:
