The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee caused a stir today when he called the Freedom of Choice Act "the greatest power grab" since the "War of Northern Aggression."
Rep. Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City, made the statement soon after the Missouri House took up a resolution today urging Congress to disapprove of the measure meant to eradicate abortion restrictions.
The comment brought about an audible reaction from the chamber. The term "War of Northern Aggression" implies that the North was in the wrong for making war against the South.
Stevenson later apologized on the floor for his remarks.
