The Missouri Senate took up the nomination of Linda Martinez to be director of the Department of Economic Development.
“Let’s hope this report see it’s shadow today,” said Senate President Pro Tem Charlie Shields, R-St. Joseph.
Sen. Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, is speaking to the Missouri Senate right now. He just said that he will not vote for Martinez's nomination. Whether he's going to continue a filibuster remains to be seen.
Whatever he ends up doing, it is clear that Rupp is not happy with the way this process has churned. He's accused Nixon of threatening him and his district if he didn't end his filibuster.
“Your actions are the same as your former counterpart in Illinois,” Rupp said, referring to former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
UPDATE: Martinez's nomination was confirmed by voice vote.
