Count Sen. Kit Bond, R-Missouri, as an opponent of a federal stimulus package.
The AP is reporting that Bond spoke out against the massive bill before flying to Washington, D.C.:
Bond acknowledges the $827 billion Senate version will likely pass when it comes to a vote on Tuesday. It must still be reconciled with the House's $820 billion version.
Bond says the bill will not stimulate job growth and fails to adequately address problems in the home industry and the credit market. He says his office is getting calls 19-1 against the measure.
Bond's
Missouri colleague in the Senate, Democrat Claire McCaskill, supports
the bill and even helped craft the Senate version.
President Barack Obama was in Indiana today to gin up public support for the package. He wants the bill to be on his desk by the end of the week.
